BYD’s off-road-focused Fang Cheng Bao brand that sells under the Denza badge in Australia has dramatically expanded its scope by unveiling the striking new Formula X supercar.

BYD-owned Fang Cheng Bao has until now focused primarily on rugged SUVs, two of which sell in Australia as the Denza B5 and B8.
Now it is diversifying, not only with the Formula X, but also three passenger car models, variously reported as the Formula and S-Series.
The Formula X, which goes into production late 2026, is a low-slung, two-door convertible supercar that features an ultra-lightweight carbon-fibre body and an aggressive aerodynamic package.

This includes multiple air vents, an active rear spoiler and heavily sculpted bodywork designed to maximise performance.
Its design follows the brand’s so-called “Life Metal” philosophy, with a distinctive low stance and chiselled lighting signatures.
Meanwhile, the interior adopts a race-inspired cockpit layout complete with physical controls, sports seats and a four-point harness.

The Formula X follows on from a supercar concept revealed by Fang Cheng Bao in 2024 dubbed the Fang Cheng Bao Super 9.
The S-Series is a range of sporty, coupe-like electric cars aimed at the premium performance segment.
While full technical specifications are yet to be confirmed, earlier reports suggest the sedan line-up could feature advanced multi-motor powertrains and next-generation battery technology, including BYD’s latest Blade battery and ultra-fast charging capability.

The introduction of sedans and a flagship supercar signal a significant evolution for Fang Cheng Bao, as BYD looks to leverage the brand’s performance credentials across a broader range of electric vehicles and further strengthen its position in the EV market.
What remains unclear locally is whether the supercar and/or passenger cars will come to Australia, which is fixated on SUVs and utes.
Previously, Denza Australia chief Mark Harland has expressed his desire to sell a sports car here.
“There will be some form of a sports car in the Denza portfolio in the future,” Harland told media in 2025.
“Not on day one, but definitely in the portfolio going forward.”
