BEIJING MOTOR SHOW: Citroen shows off pure-electric E-Elysee sedan

Small electric sedan previews French car-maker’s latest zero emissions tech, on sale in 2017, but only in China

Citroen has used the Chinese motor show to unveil a new pure-electric version of its C-Elysee sedan.

On sale as early as next year in 2017, the E-Elysee is said to be a collaboration between Citroen and its Chinese partner Dongfeng.

Powered by a lithium ion battery the E-Elysee is said to have a range of 250km and can be re-charged using a fast charger in just 30 minutes. Using a conventional plug socket, Dongfeng Citroen says it takes 6.5 hours.

Also unveiled in Beijing was the E-MEHARI concept that was shown at this year’s Geneva motor show, both pure-electric vehicles are thought to share their powertrain and batteries, although the convertible Cactus is unlikely to sell in China because of the lack of demand for drop tops.

China is now Citroen’s biggest world market. Last year it sold more than 300,000 cars there.
