MG has teased pictures of the SUV concept it plans to reveal at the Beijing motor show later this month.
Releasing three images of its nose, side profile and rear tailgate, the Chinese-owned brand has announced the SUV will be called the X-Motion concept.
Created to sit above the GS in its current range, it's believed the car that MG will unwrap will be nearly production-ready ahead of its release in China as soon as 2019.
Heavily inspired by the E-Motion concept that was unveiled at the Shanghai auto show back in April 2017, it's rumoured that instead of that car's advanced pure-electric powertrain the X-Motion will be equipped with a conventional internal combustion engine.
That's because the X-Motion is said to be based on the Roewe RX8 SUV that is already on sale in China.
Roewe, like MG, is owned by the giant SAIC conglomerate, which snapped up the British brand following the collapse of Rover.
The safe money is that the X-Motion concept and production model will come powered with the same 165kW/360Nm 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol.
Although it's set to be offered in other global markets following its China launch, it's not known if the X-Motion is destined for Australia, but considering our infatuation for all things SUV, it's likely.
MG returned Down Under back in late 2016 and has challenged its more established rivals by offering cut-throat pricing, a high level of standard kit, punchy turbo engines combined with dual-clutch transmissions and one of the strongest new car warranties in the country.
Back in September 2017, the car-maker's GS mid-size SUV -- which has since been joined by the smaller MG ZS -- became the first Chinese car to be awarded a maximum five-star ANCAP safety rating.
