BEIJING MOTOR SHOW: New Cruze officially debuts

All-new small car unlikely for Oz before Elizabeth plant closure
This is the new Cruze, GMs' global small car that will be sold around the world badged – mostly – as a Chevrolet.
It's an important model for GM in the Chinese market, where it was formally unveiled earlier this week, but it's not expected to arrive in Australia before the cessation of Holden's local manufacturing operations in 2017... if then.
As we have reported previously, the Holden Cruze will remain in production here until 2017, but as a facelift of the current model
As an indicator of the importance of the Chinese market to GM, not only was the all-new Cruze launched there, but GM's head of design, Ed Welburn, was on hand for the festivities (pictured). According to GM, the new Cruze has adopted "coupe-like flowing lines" and shorter overhangs front and rear.
While the drivetrains announced for the new car are specific to the Chinese market, it's worth noting that the turbocharged 1.4-litre engine mentioned features direct injection and there's the option of a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission too. Additionally there's a direct-injected 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated engine available, along with a six-speed manual transmission.
