Bentley has revealed a number of bespoke vehicles at the 2016 Beijing motor show in China, including the debut of the Mulsanne First Edition.
Based on the facelifted Bentley Mulsanne large luxury limo which was premiered at the 2016 Geneva motor show in March, the "highly exclusive" Mulsanne First Edition will be limited to just 50 vehicles, offered in regular, 'Speed' and Extended Wheelbase (EWB) variants – the latter likely to pique the interest of well-heeled Chinese buyers with an extra 250mm of rear legroom.
All First Edition vehicles come with a bespoke sterling silver vanity kits crafted into the rear picnic table, by Mulliner, Bentley's custom interior fitter. The vanity kits inspired by Asprey of London, include a hair brush, comb and mirror.
A champagne cooler is also optional, and the flagship vehicle on display in Beijing, a Bentley Mulsanne EWB First Edition, comes with a ripple-finished Fulbeck veneer. What is that? It's a rare walnut timber from a 350-year-old tree felled in England, which Bentley bought at auction for an undisclosed price.
Bentley Mulsanne EWB First Edition models are fitted with "airline-style reclining seats with extending footrests" according to the British car maker, which include "the ability to sleep in the rear" thanks to colour-matched curtains. Is there anything they haven't thought of?
How about massive 10.2-inch detachable tablets for rear-seat entertainment? Or perhaps one of the most high-fidelity sound systems ever invented for a motor vehicle?
Other uniquely opulent elements of the Mulsanne First Edition vehicles include Union-Jack seat embroidery and a special 'Flying B' ornament on the bonnet.
"The Mulsanne is the epitome of Bentley's DNA – exquisite, individual and powerful," said Wolfgang Dürheimer, chairman and chief executive of Bentley Motors. "It defines luxury in the automotive world and offers the unique Bentley blend of luxury and performance."
Power is supplied by 6.75-litre turbocharged V8 developing 377kW and 1020Nm, driving through an eight-speed automatic. It gives the big Bentley limos the ability to sprint to 100km/h as quickly as 5.1 seconds, while adaptive dampers and adjustable air suspension ensure occupants always arrive elegantly.
