The wraps will come off Nissan’s latest concept car design at Auto China 2014 in Beijing on April 20.
Little is known about the new concept save for the fact it’s being touted as a new sedan concept that is “mainly created for China” according to the car’s designer, Nissan Executive Design Director Mamoru Aoki.
Shown underneath a veil at the end of a short video teaser (see below), the car almost looks as though it could be a shooting brake or hatchback design, but Aoki insists: “This show car will be a sedan concept”.
Nissan’s new-look boomerang-shaped headlights can be seen glowing underneath the covers, as can the bold new grille design last seen on the Nissan Sport Sedan concept at the 2014 Detroit motor show.
The mysterious new concept car will be the fourth vehicle in Nissan’s evolving design philosophy, after the Resonance, the Friend-Me and the Sport Sedan concept.
Nissan’s production cars will steadily incorporate several of the design cues seen on these concept cars, such the distinctive new headlights.
“We need some consistent expression. But consistency itself has no meaning, so we don’t want to make these exactly the same cars,” stated Aoki.
“We see the three show cars, we adapt the same aspect but the car looks different. We combine the current sedan grille and crossover V shape in one place, from the front. It’s a very three dimensional shape,” he said.
“All three show cars were received very well. People liked them very much,” said Aoki, hinting that any of them could become production realities.
Jointly developed by Nissan Design China and Nissan Global Design Centre under Aoki’s watchful eye, the newest concept car from Nissan is expected to showcase cutting-edge in-car technology too, the car-maker insisting it will appeal to the ‘Chinese digital lifestyle’.
