BEIJING MOTOR SHOW: Smart Brabus ForTwo and ForFour unleashed
Faster version of small city cars get more power and cheeky launch controlSmart has revealed its flagship Brabus versions of the ForTwo and ForFour at the Beijing motor show.
Packing an uprated version of the 0.9-litre three-cylinder turbo, the Brabus ForTwo and ForFour now comes with 80kW/170Nm - a significant boost on the 66kW/135Nm the previously most powerful Smart came with this.
Against the clock this translates to a 0-100km/h of 9.5 seconds and a top speed of around 180km/h for the ForTwo.
The ForFour takes 10.5 seconds to reach the 100km/h benchmark.
Despite having more power the Brabus ForTwo still averages 4.5l/100km while emitting 102g/km of CO2.
Featuring larger wheels and a sportier styling kit the Smart Brabus also comes with a sports exhaust, a revised speed-sensitive steering rack and a six-speed dual-clutch transmission that offers 40 per cent quicker gear changes and even features a launch control.
Inside, there’s sports seats with the option of a Brabus Xclusive pack that upgrades the seats and dash to Nappa leather.
On sale in Europe this July it’s likely we’ll never see the Brabus version, or any other Smart in Australia for at least two years following Daimler’s decision to pull the plug on its operation Down Under.
It’s thought the brand could return some time in 2018 with a bigger SUV that’s rumoured to be in development, but for now anything small has been ruled out.
