Bendigo's weekend V8 bonanza
Ford V8 fans called to the foldIf you love old Ford V8s, the rural Victorian gold mining town of Bendigo is the place to visit this weekend. Over 129 early Ford V8 models from 1932 to 1955 from all over Australia will meet for the 11th Early Ford V8 National Event.
To celebrate the 25th Anniversary of this rapidly growing event, all entries will be on public display at the Bendigo Exhibition Centre, Prince of Wales Showgrounds, Holmes Rd Bendigo on Saturday, June 7.
This year's entry list has set an all time record. Reflecting the large number of restorations of local models and the growing number of imports from all over the world, the selection of coupes, utes, sedans, wagons, commercials, tourers and convertibles will showcase the cream of Australian and US Ford V8 models from this period.
Organisers are expecting the main display to be joined by hundreds of later Ford V8 models built in Australia to mark the end of production of the last Australian Fairlane at the end of 2007. Also joining the displays will be Ford's latest FG Falcon range and an example of the first Aussie coupe ute based on the 1934 Ford V8.
Apart from the early Fords, the event is now attracting growing numbers of classic Mercury and Lincoln models.
When the same Bendigo venue is also hosting a huge display of local vintage and veteran cars as well as a big range of working stationary steam and traction engines, a visit to Bendigo this Saturday is a must for anyone with an interest in vintage and classic machinery.
Entry to the Ford event is $2; half price for children. The display is open to the public from 10am to 4pm.
