It might cost almost $50,000 more than its predecessor at $423,160 plus on-road costs, but that hasn’t stopped Bentley’s new Flying Spur limousine from being a sell-out success in Australia before it even arrives.
Bentley won’t say exactly how many orders it has taken from well-heeled Australians, but the British company's Asia Pacific Head of Marketing and Communications, Robin Peel, told motoring.com.au that the redesigned 5.2-metre sedan is sold out here until 2014.
"Interest in Flying Spur in Australia is strong, coming from both loyal Bentley customers and those new to the brand," he said.
"Even though Flying Spur has yet to arrive in Australia, we already have orders taking us to the end of the year.
"Every car allocated for Australia is sold out until 2014."
The regional Bentley executive said the new Flying Spur, first local deliveries of which will take place in September, could end up being the luxury car-maker’s best-selling model in Australia -- at least until the recently-confirmed Bentley SUV arrives in 2016.
"It's a funny market here. You swing between the two-door and the four-door here. But yes, we imagine the four-door Flying Spur will outsell the two-door models in Australia.
"We launched the first (Continental) Flying Spur in 2005 and we were building that Flying Spur until early this year, so there's been anticipation for quite some time that it's coming," he said.
