UK custom body shop DC Customs has created the world’s first Bentley Flying Spur ute (as far as we know) – and the workhorse for the British upper class is now on sale for £149,950 ($A298,500).
Claimed to have cost £120,000 ($A239,000) to build over an 18-month period, the Bentley Flying Spur ‘Decadence’ trayback began life as a standard 2005 Bentley limo before the West Midlands-based modifiers got busy with a gas axe.
Crucially, the custom shop has left the twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12 engine well alone, so it still produces a thumping 412kW and 650Nm of torque that drives all four wheels via a six-speed automatic transmission.
Back in 2005 the Flying Spur was said to be capable of a 4.9sec 0-100km/h sprint, although the Bentley Decadence ute should be much quicker on account of it losing more than half of its rear bodywork.
Now a two-seater, the British team responsible welded the rear doors shut and left some handy cargo space behind the rear seats before going to town on the rear bed.
Instead of the usual heavy-duty polyurethane coating, the luxury ute’s tray gets a full teak wood lining complete with lockable drawers and cabinets, plus space for two batteries.
The Decadence is painted in a deep purple shade, with a contrasting silver bonnet.
The cabin is suitably plush, with two-tone caramel leather, a classy walnut veneer and a large sunroof.
It’s on sale now in the UK (see the listing here on PistonHeads.com) and follows other wild one-off creations from DC Customs, including modified Ferrari supercars and top-flight dragsters.
Others have toyed with the idea of a Rolls-Royce-based pick-up, but the new Bentley-based ute could be the most luxurious execution yet.
