Bentley has released a second teaser of its coach-built 2022 Bentley Mulliner Batur it will unwrap on August 21 at the Monterey Car Week in California.
Created as a successor to the roofless Bentley Bacalar, the hand-built special from the British luxury brand’s bespoke division is claimed to be a landmark car for Bentley as it’s said to signal its future design direction.
Claimed to blend classic Bentley styling cues with “new, cleaner forms”, the shadowy side profile released overnight shows the Batur is far sleeker than the Continental GT it’s believed to be based on.
The Batur, which takes its name from an Indonesian crater lake, looks to be an elegant large coupe featuring slim tail-lights and narrow headlights that look to abandon the current car’s quad roundels.

The preview images released to date also show pronounced rear wheel-arches and what looks like an unusual pop-up rear spoiler ahead of the boot lid.
Bentley Mulliner hasn’t announced how many Batur coupes it plans to produce, but says it will offer almost unlimited levels of personalisation for its customers.
Materials available for wealthy owners include new sustainable natural fibre composites, low-CO2 leather and 3D-printed 18-carat gold features that could include a flying ‘B’ emblem.
Almost certain to be based on the Volkswagen Group MSB architecture – the same platform underpinning the current Bentley Continental GT – the Batur is confirmed as offering a twin-turbocharged 6.0-litre W12.
Better still, the British car-maker promises it will develop even more power and torque than the 485kW and 900Nm produced by the current fastest Continental GT Speed.
The engine is set to be combined with all-wheel drive and an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission, enabling the Batur to sprint from 0-100km/h in around 3.0 seconds and top out at more than 330km/h.
Finally, the Batur should drive as well as it looks, thanks to Bentley’s next-gen chassis system that’s claimed to be its most advanced ever and is set to blend cossetting air suspension, active dampers and torque vectoring for a fine ride and decent agility.
It’s rumoured to be priced from as much as $US2 million ($A2.9m), but full details will be revealed in California next week.
