Bentley puts a chiropractor in your Bentayga
New Airline Seat Specification to bring ‘world-first’ climate sensing and postural adjustment to big British SUVIf you’ve ever wished for your very own mobile chiropractor, you’d better hope your next car is a Bentley Bentayga EWB.
As we’ve previously reported, the stretched Bentley Bentayga EWB (Extended Wheel Base) large super-luxury SUV will launch globally in the third quarter of 2022 as a stand-alone model, sharing the same V8 powertrain as the Bentayga but riding on a wheelbase that’s 180mm longer.
Now, Bentley has dubbed the limousine-like SUV’s rear seat as the “most wellbeing-focused car seat in the world”, with 177 individual pressure changes across six fully independent pressure zones and 22 different power adjustment, plus an electric foot rest.
The Airline Seat Specification comprises 12 electric motors and three intelligent pneumatic valve ECU units, all controlled by a master ECU, to help create the “finest rear accommodation since the Mulsanne”.
A Postural Adjustment system is designed to reduce fatigue, by “subtlety adjusting the contact pressure between body and seat through soft pneumatic activation zones” to relieve pressure points; a system Bentley says was developed in collaboration with a chiropractor and Comfort Motion Global (CMG).
“By creating subtle changes in the seat surface contact zones, body tissues that have been under pressure are relieved. This allows the body a chance to locally recover naturally. The postural motion creates small changes in back and limb angles and can increase blood flow,” says Bentley.
The Airline Seat Specification also adds further cushion and backrest bolster adjustments, plus a cushion extension and electric height adjustment for the head restraint, which can also recline up to 40 degrees.
Meanwhile, the climate control system in the Bentayga EWB is able to sense temperature and humidity with an accuracy of 0.1°C every 25 milliseconds, in order to provide the optimal environment for passengers.
The Auto Climate System is said to be 40 per cent more efficient; Bentley says it will maintain optimal thermal comfort throughout the journey with micro-adjustments to the seat thermal system to maintain the setpoint.
Existing seat heating tech is carried over, however, a new seat ventilation fan can move approximately 80 per cent more air than the previous system.
