Bentley's Frankfurt Blue
Bentley used the IAA Show at Frankfurt to unveil the production version of its new Azure.The luxurious four-seater drophead goes on sale in the UK in the first quarter of 2006 (northern hemisphere spring) but was first debuted as the Arnage Drophead Coupe show car at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January this year.
Like its predecessor, which was in production from 1995 to 2002, the new Azure convertible becomes the flagship of the Bentley model range.
Unmistakeably Bentley and based on the Arnage limo, the new Azure's cabin and rear are newly designed. The folding three-layer fabric roof is operated hydraulically and stows beneath the hide-trimmed tonneau in under 30 seconds.
The top-of-the-range drophead is powered by a 336kW/875Nm version of the Arnage's 6.75lt twin-turbo V8 engine.
According to Bentley, the specification of the production version of the Azure is virtually unchanged from the original show car. The principle change is the introduction of lightweight, high-strength carbon-fibre underfloor cross braces for higher levels of body stiffness. In addition, the chrome trimmed bumpers
Bentley says details of market availability and pricing of the new Azure will be released nearer its on-sale date.
