Bespoke Ferrari KC23 revealed ahead of Goodwood debut

Ferrari has ripped the covers off its latest one-off creation commissioned through the brand’s Specials Projects program by one of its most beloved clients.

Officially dubbed the Ferrari KC23, the bespoke track-only creation is based on the 2020 Ferrari 488 GT3 Evo racer – the most successful Ferrari race car to date – and features all the same chassis and powertrain components underneath its futuristic carbon body.

Designers say not one of the KC23’s exterior lines match those of its donor car and that the whole package has two visual configurations: static elegance and dynamic aggression.

In plain English that means the car has designed to be as beautiful and elegant as possible while inactive, but as aggressive and efficient as a GT3 car when on the move, with both configurations facilitated by folding intakes that open as soon as the vehicle’s started, plus the enormous removable rear wing.

Access to the cabin is via a pair of LaFerrari-style butterfly doors, behind which you’ll find something pretty close to the interior of the 488 GT3 Evo 2020, incorporating a digital motorsport dash, thousands of buttons, fixed carbon racing bucket seats, roll cage and steering yoke.

However, there are unique door panels as well as specific passenger-side dash trim and digital mirror displays.

The carbon buckets are lined with Alcantara while the dash is adorned with a combination of carbon-fibre and brushed aluminium.

Behind the cabin is a GT3-spec 3.9-litre twin-turbo V8 punching out around 447kW/700Nm via a seven-speed sequential Getrag transmission.

Included in the undisclosed but inevitably stratospheric asking price are a set of 18-inch forged wheels and matching tyres for when the car’s being used on track, as well as a staggered ‘show set’ measuring 21 inches up front and 22 inches at the rear.

To this end, designers say the KC23’s ‘Gold Mercury livery’ was created using a specially-developed four-layer aluminium paint to give the body “an astonishingly luminous gleam” in sunlight and a change in pigment depending on the type, intensity and angle of light.

“The new arrival took over three years to develop and now joins the most exclusive group in the Prancing Horse’s range: bespoke cars crafted to the specifications of a client, making them the very pinnacle of Ferrari’s personalisation strategy,” said Ferrari.

The Ferrari KC23 will make its first public appearance at the Goodwood Festival of Speed this Thursday (July 13), before going on display at the Ferrari Museum in Maranello between August 1 and October 2.
