He's one of the world's most-watched stunt drivers and now Ken Block has shifted his focus to something a little more classic.
Ditching the WRC-inspired Fiesta for a 50-year-old Mustang, Block's GYMKHANA_SEVEN "Wild in the Streets" takes to the Los Angeles pavement in what's claimed to be the only all-wheel drive performance Mustang ever built.
Dubbed the Hoonicorn RTR, the 6.7-litre V8-powered makes its escape from the workshop with a little help from the LAPD before drifting luridly through city streets and storm drains. The footage is like a blend of Hollywood blockbuster and computer game – and the noise? It's something V8 fans will appreciate, and far removed from the peaky turbo nature of the Fiesta.
The DC Shoes founder says his SEMA special develops 630kW and 880Nm (!) running a custom-built six-speed Sadev SC90-24 transmission and all-wheel drive system. A hydraulic "E-brake" and Block-specific tyres add fervour to the grip, slip and smoke recipe while the rat-look of the 'Stang comes courtesy of ASD Motorsports in NoCal, a project two years in the making.
Block said the design of the Hoonicorn was inspired by toy cars from his youth and that in spite of its ragged look, is bulletproof. The amount of strain on the driveline would be incredible!
"This is a project that I’ve been working on for two years, so to see it fully come to fruition and be able to drive it for GYMKHANA_SEVEN was absolutely amazing," said Block.
"This is hands-down the best Gymkhana car I’ve had yet," he concluded.
