Porsche has announced a major tech upgrade for its second-generation Macan SUV, one that’ll supposedly bring newfound levels of convenience, capability and safety to its latest EV.
Looking to enhance the appeal of its second-generation Macan medium SUV, Porsche has thrown a heap of new features at the volume-focused EV, most of which do what they say on the tin, but we’ll run through them anyway.
For starters, the 360-degree ‘Surround View’ suite has been upgraded with a new transparent bonnet view, trained parking (learned parking routines) and reversing assistant, the latter of which enables the Macan to automatically reverse along a route – of up to 50m – it has previously driven forwards.
Other new additions include Porsche Digital Key functionality for smartphones and other devices – able to be shared via Apple Wallet or a native wallet app on Android between seven people – and in-car gaming.
Games from Gameloft and Obscure Interactive will be able to be played via the touchscreen, a Bluetooth remote or smartphone (via AirConsole) with the driver and passengers able to play together or individually during rest stops or charging – passengers can play on-the-fly.
The Macan’s voice command system has been upgraded with AI so it now “understands “complex, interrelated questions and recognises what a statement is referring to”.
“An integrated on-board manual answers questions about vehicle use – without typing, simply by voice command,” Porsche said.
The brand hasn’t gone into detail as to how, but dual-motor (AWD) Macans will soon be able to tow up to 2500kg (braked) instead of the previous 2000kg, with this particular upgrade able to be “retroactively enabled” on existing vehicles.
Porsche Australia has thus far confirmed the 2026 Macan will arrive Down Under by the end of the year, and while it’s yet to lock in pricing, there’ll be some new personalisation options for the door sill guards and LED door courtesy lights.
“The Porsche Charging Planner has also been optimised, and customers can now prioritise or specifically exclude individual charging stations and providers when planning their journey,” the brand said in a statement.
