Although we weren't allowed to take any photos, the Carsales Network has been given a sneak peek BMW's next M car, the model set to bring a whole new meaning to the term 'pocket rocket'.
Visiting BMW's M Studio in Munich this week, we had a brief look at one of the suspension tuning cars for the upcoming model -- the 1 Series M Coupe, as it will be known.
Being a test car, the interior was understandably low-rent and not how the final car will be finished, but we came away with a good impression of how the new model looks on the road. In a word: tough.
Not wearing the M1 moniker as previously rumoured, the feisty two door sports pumped front and rear quarter panels and wheel arches, a revised, beefier front bar, sporty rear diffuser, super low ride height and huge lightweight alloy wheels housing massive cross drilled brake rotors.
Even at a glance, it's got performance written all over it.
The guys at M studio were reluctant to speak about engine output, or on any technical specifications at all for that matter, but did say the previous E46 M3 was "a good guide" to the power and torque output of the newest M car (for reference, the figures are approximately 252kW/365Nm).
Aimed at attracting a younger flock to the brand, the 1 Series M Coupe is said by BMW M Division's Dr Kay Segler to be so fast it "will make you smile, you will have goose pimples".
A brief video of the brutal baby M car testing at the Nurburgring can be seen below and an interview with BMW M GmbH's chief Dr. Kay Segler also provides a few clues as to the car's performance.
BMW has told us we can look forward to seeing the 1 Series M Coupe being launched within the first half of next year.
