BMW 228i slots into local range
Higher-output petrol four rounds out 2 Series, but comes in pitched well above base-model pricingBMW Australia has closed the gap in its local 2 Series model range, offering the 228i sandwiched between the diesel 220d and the M235i.
Due in showrooms from September the 228i is priced at $64,400, reflecting not only the market position afforded the more powerful engine, but also the added equipment lacking in the 220i and 220d models below it.
"The multi-award winning engine used in the 328i and 428i has proved to be the sweet spot in their respective ranges, delivering impressive power with a rorty exhaust note and remarkable efficiency," said Toni Andreevski, General Manager of Marketing at BMW Australia.
"The 2.0-litre TwinPower turbo engine has received critical acclaim from automotive experts, being awarded international engine of the year in its category for the last two years, so naturally we're delighted to add this fantastic power plant to our beautiful 2 Series Coupe body," Andreevski was quoted saying in a press release issued today.
Producing 180kW and 350Nm, the new engine propels the 228i to 100km/h from a standing start in just 5.7 seconds, yet the official combined-cycle fuel consumption figure is 6.3L/100km.
Available as standard in either 'Sport Line' or 'Modern Line' trim, the 228i comes with all the standard kit of the 220i and 220d, but additionally features 18-inch alloy wheels, variable sports steering, front park distance control, bi-xenon headlights/washer system and Dakota leather upholstery. The 228i can also be specified with ConnectedDrive apps and features over above the standard driving aids bundled together under ConnectedDrive.
