BMW Australia announces new 3 Series sedan pricing
Lighter, larger and cheaper sixth generation 3 Series to go on sale Down Under from $60,900 when it arrives this FebruaryBMW Australia has announced the pricing for its sixth generation 3 Series sedan, slated to go on sale locally in February 2012.
The three-model lineup features a range of fuel-efficient TwinPower Turbo engines, extended equipment lines and lower pricing than the models it replaces.
At the entry end, the BMW 320d is priced from $60,990 and features a 135kW/380Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbodiesel engine. The frugal model delivers a class-leading average combined cycle fuel consumption figure of just 4.5L/100km and arrives as standard with such features as 17-inch alloy wheels, electrically-adjustable front seats, keyless push-button start, front and rear parking sensors, and an MP3 compatible six-speaker audio system with 6.5-inch colour display.
The mid-range BMW 328i is priced from $66,900, a full $5000 less than the 325i model it replaces. Powered by a four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, 328i benefits from an additional 20kW and 100Nm to arrive at a peak output figure of 180kW/350Nm. At the same time, fuel economy is reduced by 30 per cent to 6.3L/100km. Added equipment over the 320d includes BMW’s Navigation System Business and a nine-speaker premium audio package.
Finally, the flagship model of the new 3 Series range, the BMW 335i features a turbocharged six-cylinder petrol engine developing 225kW/400Nm. Priced from $91,900 the new model is 15 per cent cheaper than the previous 335i M Sport model. The premium model receives 18-inch alloy wheels, high grade entertainment and communication systems -- which include enhanced Bluetooth connectivity, a 12GB hard drive (for audio files), voice control and internet functionality – and Bi-Xenon headlamps.
All models receive as standard six airbags, stability control, dual-zone climate control, cruise control (with brake function), electric front seats with memory function, power windows and mirrors, dusk-sensing headlamps, front and rear parking sensors, Bluetooth telephony, leather upholstery (man-made on 320d) and MP3 compatible CD audio systems with auxiliary and USB inputs.
An eight-speed automatic transmission with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters is standard across the range and is combined on all models with a host of BMW EfficientDynamics technologies including Auto Stop/Start, Brake Energy Regeneration and ECO PRO four-mode transmission control.
The new BMW 3 Series sedan measures 50mm longer in wheelbase, has a 93mm longer body and rides on a wider track for enhanced stability. Improved interior space, especially in the rear, is topped by a 480 litre boot capacity.
A pair of as yet undefined option packages include the $3100 Modern Line and $4100 Sport/Luxury Line ($1000 and $2000 respectively on BMW 328i and 335i models).
“The new generation 3 Series Sedan improves upon BMW’s reputation for sporty driving dynamics, stylish design, advanced technology and safety, powerful and fuel efficient drivetrains and luxury features,” said BMW Group Australia managing director, Phil Horton.
“But more than anything, with reduced pricing for the range topping 335i and new 328i and a huge increase in standard equipment for the 320d, it offers a substantial improvement in value, both compared with its predecessor and its direct rivals in the market.”
