BMW Group Australia has formally announced its shift to an industry-standard five-year/unlimited-kilometre warranty for the BMW, MINI and BMW Motorrad brands, effective from November 1.
The announcement roughly coincides with the local launch of the new-generation BMW X1 compact SUV and global launch of the new BMW 7 Series limousine, and will be backdated for all customers who purchased a new Group vehicle as of or after October 1.
All current and future BMW and MINI models will be covered under the new set-up, including the growing range of electrified models, and drags the BMW Group back on par with all of its key premium rivals.
Jaguar, Mercedes-Benz, Audi, Alfa Romeo, Volkswagen, Genesis, Volvo and Lexus already offer the now obligatory five-year coverage.
No luxury brands yet offer a six-year warranty, let alone a seven-year warranty like Kia, Skoda, GWM/Haval, SsangYong and MG.
Rolls-Royce and Tesla both offer a four-year warranty, while luxury brands still offering only a three-year warranty include Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Lotus, Maserati and Porsche.
“The new warranty offering perfectly complements our extensive range of ownership benefits, making the purchase of a new BMW or MINI even more compelling while providing long term peace of mind for our customers during their ownership journey,” BMW Group Australia CEO Wolfgang Buechel said.
“We selected this time to introduce our new warranty along with the market debut of the seventh generation BMW 7 Series – a vehicle renowned for treating its occupants to peerless levels of luxury, technology and refinement.”
Coinciding with BMW’s new warranty is an expanded array of PHEV and EV-specific functions and read-outs for the My BMW App or MINI App, providing what’s claimed to be a new level of information about battery charge state, range and charging history.
And yes, the formidable BMW M performance vehicle range is included under the new five-year warranty.
