BMW's M powerhaus has punched more power and far more speed into its three-model M6 family.
The addition of a stronger Competition Package to the M6 Coupe, Convertible and Gran Coupe has added 29kW of power and another 20Nm of torque to the standard M6 V8, or another 18kW on top of the old Competition Package.
The extra gristle, which takes the biturbo V8’s output up to 441kW and 700Nm, rips half a second out of the standard M6 Coupe to 100km/h and more than half a second in the run from zero to 200km/h.
With the Competition Package fitted, the M6 Coupe and Gran Coupe now hit 100km/h in just 3.9 seconds, while the heavier convertible follows just a tenth of a second behind them.
The two-door Coupe also flits to 200km/h in 11.8 seconds and all three M6 variants are limited to 250km/h, though the additional spend for the M Driver’s Package will lift that to 305km/h.
BMW is paying attention to the torque band, too, with the full 700Nm available from 1500rpm to 6000rpm.
Customers won’t pay a price at the bowser though, with the two hard-top models consuming 9.9L/100km on the NEDC cycle and the convertible using 10.3L/100km.
Available from July in Europe and later this year in Australia, the Competition Package isn’t just a power boost. The chassis and handling have been retuned, with stiffer springs, dampers and anti-roll bars and tweaks to the Active M Differential.
The M6 Competition Package cars also get their own 20-inch alloy wheels and black chrome exhaust outlets.
