The order books have opened for the 2022 BMW i4 Gran Coupe, a year out from its Australian launch.
The local model range – and therefore pricing and specs – is still to be revealed, but BMW has moved to enable customers to reserve one of the first batch of cars bound for Australia by placing a $500 deposit online.
The company will only say that the line-up will include a BMW M Performance model and that power output of up to 390kW and driving range of up to 590km (WLTP) will be available.
This indicates that the top-spec model will be among the first batch, as will a gentler version that has less power but will provide the longer range from the 100kWh lithium-ion battery.
There will be both ‘40’ and ‘50’ variants of the 2022 BMW i4, both sharing the 100kWh battery pack and using dual motors that deliver plenty of power and provide all-wheel drive.
A more affordable rear-drive ‘30’ with the smaller 80kWh battery from the BMW iX3 is expected later next year.
In Europe, pricing for the BMW i4 starts at €77,300, which equates to $A119,500 as a straight figure, before taxes.
The BMW i4 Gran Coupe will follow the forthcoming all-new BMW iX3 and BMW iX xDrive40 and xDrive50 models, with the two battery-electric SUVs both launching later this year.
First deliveries of the BMW i4 are expected in the first quarter of 2022.
BMW Australia says those customers who reserve their i4 and place the $500 deposit “will have the opportunity to specify their vehicle later this year in co-ordination with their preferred BMW dealer when more detail is released about the model line-up, specification and equipment offerings”.
