A cheaper BMW iX3 is on the way Down Under in the final quarter of the year: the entry-level 40 variant. Priced from $89,900 plus on-road costs, the new rear-drive offering is $20,000 cheaper than the full-fat 50 xDrive which means it slips underneath the Luxury Car Tax threshold and is eligible for the Electric Car Discount

Zero-100km/h comes up in a claimed 5.9 seconds on its way to a 200km/h v-max, but being the base model, performance isn’t the preferred name of the iX3 40’s game – despite being rear-drive and described as a ‘sports activity vehicle’.
It’s about bringing the first Neue Klasse product to the masses, which means efficiency and technology.
The 635km WLTP range is backed up by a 21-minute 10-80 per cent DC charge (300kW) time and up to 22kW AC charging – enough for a 0-100 per cent fill in less than four and a half hours.

Despite the 20-grand price difference, the iX3 40 mirrors the 50 xDrive’s standard equipment list, meaning highlights include 20-inch wheels, dual-zone climate control, a 3D head-up display, electric tailgate, a premium Harman/Kardon sound system, M Sport package with M Sport brakes, Sports steering wheel with heating, a panoramic glass roof, vehicle-to-load (V2L) capability and the vast BMW Panoramic iDrive system.
The 2026 BMW iX3 40 will arrive in local showrooms in Q4 of this year (October-December) eligible for the federal Electric Car Discount – meaning it’s exempt from the Fringe Benefits Tax when purchased via a novated lease as per the iX1 eDrive20 and xDrive30, X2 eDrive20 and xDrive30, and i4 eDrive35.
How much does the 2026 BMW iX3 cost?
40 – $89,900
50 xDrive – $109,900
* Prices exclude on-road costs
