BMW has introduced a new AI-driven onboard assistant in charge of helping the car owner when things go wrong.
Using data and artificial intelligence, the Proactive Care service can reportedly self-diagnose a fault, detect and report on damage to your vehicle when you’re away from the car, and even arrange a call to your dealer or roadside assistance service automatically.
Proactive Care can even direct owners to the correct BMW-approved workshop to have a specific problem addressed, or arrange a video call with a mechanic for advice or further diagnosis.

Introduced on BMW vehicles that run its iDrive 7 (version 07/2019, or later), BMW says its AI ‘mechanic’ will be upgraded and grow in sophistication with over-the-air updates.
To access the service, owners must have the vehicle registered with their BMW app, or BMW ID.
In the fine print, the car-maker also says “the service scope of Proactive Care may vary depending on the delivery country”.
