BMW launches i Accessories range

Eco-friendly 11-piece accessory collection released to accompany first BMW i cars

BMW has released what it says is a multifunctional and completely recyclable 11-piece accessory collection for its upcoming i-car range.

Designed to complement the i3 and i8, the BMW i Accessories range comprises covers, cases, nets, mats and bags made to match the style and functionality of the vehicles – and all with a similar environmental focus.

Made almost entirely from recycled consumer goods, the lightweight accessories include a fold-flat box to keep items secure in the boot, a luggage compartment protector that transforms into a large carry box, a car cover that doubles as a picnic blanket and a "charismatic treat for the hands" – otherwise known as a key cover – that also happens to glow in the dark.

A made-to-measure case designed to store the electric vehicles' charger is also available, while an all-weather car cover resists water and UV rays to protect the 'i' car regardless of season. Specific to the i3 are a water-repelling cable bag, all-weather floor mat set, transport net and sunblind.

BMW says its i Accessories range uses colour schemes and highlights aimed to reference its 'i' models, included the trademark Electric Blue reference seen through the range.

"For the BMW i Accessories collection we’ve combined the message of sustainability with clever product solutions," explained creative director, Rudolph Moosmeier.

"The themes of lightness and the use of sustainable materials have been translated into a design language which gives this family of accessories a consistent look and is in harmony with all four interior equipment variants of the i3."

BMW Australia's first plug-in vehicles will be launched here within months. The i3 hatch will be available from mid-November priced at $63,900 plus on-road costs, while first deliveries of the $299,000 i8 coupe will take place next March, following its October launch.
