BMW Australia is set to bring new meaning to the term ‘executive express’, confirming it will take a new M Performance variant of the flagship 7 Series from 2017.
The M Performance M760Li xDrive will arrive in local showrooms in the second quarter of next year, bringing V12 punch and all-wheel drive grip – along with an official zero to 100km/h time of 3.7 seconds to the uber luxury set. That’s supercar territory from a two-tonne sledgehammer.
Pricing has been set at $419,000 (plus on-road costs), almost line-ball with the rivalling Mercedes-Maybach S600 limousine.
At the heart of the BMW is a 6.6-litre twin-turbocharged V12 petrol engine producing 448kW and 800Nm. Along with manic acceleration, the bent-12 is also said to consume 12.6L/100km, according to the manufacturer.
The engine is paired to an M Performance-specific transmission program which is said to combine peak efficiency with the ability to ‘learn’ the road ahead via the reading of navigational data. An M Sports exhaust will no doubt subdue or amplify the V12’s sonorous tones, depending on one’s mood.
The first BMW passenger saloon to be offered with all-wheel drive in Australia, the M760Li xDrive’s electronics package will be capable of adapting to a driver’s particular style, while sport-tuned air suspension will offer a soft but well-controlled ride.
Completing the M760Li’s performance suite are M Sport brake calipers, which wrap 19-inch disc brakes, along with staggered 20-inch M alloy wheels.
The M760Li will bring what BMW describes as “unprecedented” levels of standard equipment, including BMW Night Vision with Pedestrian Recognition, Rear Entertainment Experience, massage function ventilated seats, 16-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, BMW Laserlight, wireless phone charging, gesture control, four-zone climate control, ceramic control surrounds and a choice of BMW Individual exterior finishes, interior trims and upholsteries.
Cabin niceties include Merino leather seats, door panels and trim, centre console, armrests and dashboard, black fine wood interior trims and an anthracite headliner.
