BMW Australia has confirmed prices for a range of M Performance Parts now available for its giant-killing new M2 Coupe.
Although there's no sign yet of the exhaust and suspensions upgrades available in Germany, local customers will be able to make their M2s more distinctive by choosing from a range of no fewer than 20 BMW M Performance Parts now confirmed for Australia.
Unlike the M3 and M4 Competition Pack models due here in July, the M2 Performance parts don't include engine or chassis mods, so there's no change to the output of the 272kW/465Nm 3.0-litre turbo six, which accelerates the compact coupe to 100km/h in the same 4.5 seconds.
As you can see from these images released in Germany in February, included in the range of M Performance Parts for BMW's new baby M coupe is an array cool carbon-fibre reinforced plastic add-ons. However, as you can see from these prices (fitted, including GST), they're not cheap.
Carbon-fibre components include front aero attachments ($939 each side), which are only available in conjunction with a rear spoiler ($1243), side skirt attachments (994 each side), rear diffuser ($1810) and mirror caps ($430 each).
In addition, there are ornamental side grilles ($171 apiece), black gloss front side grilles ($275 each), tri-colour M Motorsport strip foils ($1099) and an M Performance sticker set ($100).
Inside, the list of M2 Performance Parts extends to a five-piece Alcantara/Carbon trim set ($1965), carbon centre console kit (809), LED door sill finishers ($414), manual pedal set ($345), LED door protectors ($285) and a key fob ($89).
So while M2 pricing starts at $89,990, tick all these boxes and you'll pay more than $100,000.
M2 Performance Parts available in Germany but remaining subject to Australian Design Rule Certification at this stage include a bi-modal exhaust system that can switch between ‘loud’ (sport) and ‘antisocially loud’ (track) modes via a Bluetooth-operated flap.
While more durable M Performance brake pads designed for track use are available here, yet to be approved for local release is upgraded, adjustable suspension with a ride height up to 20mm lower and dampers adjustable for compression and rebound.
In Europe, M2 owners can also retro-fit 80mm high-gloss exhaust outlets or 93mm carbon-fibre trimmed items with M logos, plus three M steering wheel options: an Alcantara-covered M Performance steering wheel, an open-pore carbon-fibre finish or a wheel with integrated race display showing lap times, G-force and shift indicator.
Such is the popularity of BMW's first M2 – winner of motoring.com.au's Australia's Best Driver's Car 2016 — that it's already sold out before first deliveries arrive in June, leading BMW Oz to secure another 100 examples by the end of this year.
It's unclear exactly how many M2s BMW Australia will land next year, or if the M2 will receive the same track-spec Competition Pack or hard-core GTS treatments as the larger M4 Coupe.
