BMW M3 CS pricing announced

Limited number of new BMW M3 CS sedans here in June, priced $10K cheaper than coupe

BMW Australia has announced a $179,900 price tag for the new BMW M3 CS sedan, a limited number of which will be available here from June.

That makes the most potent BMW M3 ever built exactly $10,000 cheaper than the BMW M4 CS coupe ($189,900 plus ORCs, following a near-$22K price cut before it even arrived here early this year), with which it shares its 338kW/600Nm 3.0-litre twin-turbo straight six and seven-speed dual-clutch auto.

The sub-$180K pricetag also makes the M3 CS precisely $33,000 pricier than the BMW M3 Competition on which it’s based, in line with the M4 Competition and CS coupes.

Also like the M4 range, BMW’s top-shelf M3 is a whopping $50K more expensive than the cheapest M3 – the $129,900 M3 Pure (M4 Pure: $139,900).

That said, with an all-new 3 Series range coming to Australia early next year, BMW dealers are currently offering the M3 Pure for as little as $119,900 drive-away – significantly less than the $157,211 that Mercedes-AMG charges for its C 63 S sedan.

Like the M4 CS, the M3 CS is limited to 1200 units globally, but BMW Australia is yet to reveal exactly how many will be available here because it is still "finalising allocation requests".

Like the M4 CS – apart from its high-output turbo-six, which revs to 7600rpm -- the M3 CS comes standard with Cup tyres, a carbon-plastic bonnet, rear diffuser and prop shaft (and rear boot lip spoiler), and more focussed springs and dampers.

The extra 7kW and 50Nm over the M3 Competition (matching the M4 GTS for torque) makes it the quickest BMW production car apart from the M4 GTS and new M5, with a claimed 0-100km/h of just 3.9 seconds.

Other standard features include the M Driver’s Package (with its 280km/h top speed), Adaptive M suspension, Active M Differential, 9.0x19-inch front and 10x20-inch rear wheels with 265/35 R19 and 285/30 R20 Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tyres. BMW will also offer buyers the option of Michelin Sport road tyres.

The M3 CS will upholstered in two-tone (Silverstone/Black) leather and Alcantara, and standard comfort and convenience features will include automatic climate control, a Harman Kardon surround-sound system and Navigation system Professional.

Options will include the M Carbon Ceramic Braking system, rear roller sunblind, sun protection glazing, headlight washer system, TV function and wireless Apple CarPlay integration.

While shipments of the M3 CS are still arriving Down Under, the M3 CS entered production last month ahead of first local deliveries in June.

“The combination of the M4 CS’s drivetrain into the M3’s pumped-up sedan body makes the M3 CS highly desirable,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Marc Werner.

“Even better, we’ve been able to follow up from the M4 CS’s strong price position.”
