BMW M3 to inherit Curved Display – but not M4

German sports sedan’s controversial front-end remains, but at least there’ll be a swisher interior waiting within

Following in the wake of the facelifted 2023 BMW 3 Series’ reveal, the Bavarian brand has announced a fresh update for the flagship BMW M3, which will inherit the new ‘BMW Curved Display’ gained by mainstream variants from July.

Whereas regular BMW 3 Series grades will arrive Down Under later in the year with a new face, tail and interior, the high-performance M version will still ship with the same controversial Bugs Bunny grille, but user-friendliness should step up thanks to the new dual-screen dashboard design.

The new arrangement comprises a 14.9-inch infotainment interface – run by the latest BMW Operating System 8 and accessable via the latest generation of BMW iDrive system – and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster.

For reference, the upgraded tech is also expected to be present in the looming BMW M3 Touring.

While the updated M3 sedan will be available in Europe as of July, its local arrival is shrouded in mystery given there was no mention of it in the 3 Series reveal press materials, but nonetheless we expect it to arrive at around the same time as or just after its mainstream counterparts.

Other updates include expansions to the (global) options list including a new Innovation Package, wireless phone charging tray for suitable smartphones, a personal eSim, an Sensatec instrument panel trim and M interior trims in ‘Aluminium Rhombicle Anthracite’.

‘Frozen Pure Grey metallic’ has also been added to the BMW Individual colour palette.

At this stage it seems the related BMW M4 coupe misses out on all these extra goodies, but the high-end two-door will at least be treated to new M graphics on the bonnet and boot lid…
