BMW M4 CS headed for Oz

M4 GTS-inspired two-door to appear in October, alongside cheaper M3

BMW Australia has confirmed the highly-touted M4 CS will join its range later this year.

Sharing much of the same performance suite as the flagship M4 GTS, the ‘Club Sport’ version in the car maker’s performance coupe line-up is set to appear in showrooms from October.

BMW remains tight-lipped about how many M4 CS models it has acquired, but we’re tipping more than the 25 highly sought-after M4 GTS derivatives. Similarly, expect a starting price closer to $200,000 compared with the GTS’ more extravagant $295,000 sticker price.

The ‘Goldilocks pick’ heralds a number of changes across the M3 sedan and M4 coupe and convertible ranges.

For one, the M3 sedan entry price will now be $15,000 cheaper than before - at $129,900 (plus on-road costs) - thanks to the addition of a new M3 Pure variant.

Arriving from July, the base model gets the more powerful 331kW/550Nm tune of the flagship M3 Competition variant, available with either a dual-clutch automatic or no-cost six-speed manual. Smaller 19-inch alloy wheels, head-up display, carbon-fibre roof, comfort access, sat-nav, tyre pressure monitoring, cloth/leather upholstery, LED headlights and a nine-speaker sound system are included.

Similar to the M2 Pure edition introduced last year, the ‘cut-price M3’ misses out on a convenience niceties such as leather seats, adaptive LED headlights with high beam assist, heated seats, Haman/Kardon sound system and sunblinds for the rear windows.

BMW has updated the regular M3 range with new 20-inch star-spoke alloy wheels, updated LED headlights with DRLs, new trims and illuminated M3 badging on the front sports seats.

Similarly, the M4 sports corresponding updates, including the new LED headlights and taillights, revised trims and BMW latest’ iDrive 6 infotainment system projected from its 8.8-inch centre display screen.

The changes are accompanied by a $10,000 cheaper starting price for the M4 Pure coupe, at $139,900 (plus on-road costs). It too shares the same 331kW/550Nm engine tune as the M3 and M4 Competition, up from 317kW/550Nm tune of the standard M3 and M4.

The M4 Competition further differentiates itself with firmer adaptive M suspension, re-worked stability control suite, M Sport front seats and aesthetic changes.
