BMW M Motorsport has released its first image of the BMW M4-based race car it has created to compete in GT4 customer racing.
It has also confirmed that work has already begun to develop the motorsport-ready racer for its life on track.
Set to make its debut next year, the turnkey 2022 BMW M4 GT4 appears to sport an enormous rear wing that features trick swan-neck mounts that help the massive spoiler maximise downforce without adding drag.
The G28-gen BMW 4 Series-based customer racer replaces the previous-gen F82 BMW M4 GT4 that was first introduced back in 2018.
Like that car, the 2022 M4 GT4 is set to be powered by the road car's 3.0-litre turbocharged inline six-cylinder – although both power and torque will be turned down to meet series regulations.
Instead of the BMW M4 Competition's 375kW/650Nm, the track-suited M4 GT4 should churn out around 320kW/620Nm – although both those figures can alter due to GT4 racing's balance-of-power (BOP) equalisers that ensure close racing.
The racer will tip the scales at just 1350kg (also dependent on BOP) which has seen BMW M introduce carbon-fibre for the doors and bonnet, strip out all the cabin's luxuries and add an FIA-approved roll-cage.
Finally, a fire extinguishing system and air jack lifts have also been added.
When it arrives next year, the M4 GT4 will join the M4 GT3, M2 CS Racing, M8 GTE and M6 GT3 in the current race car line-up.
The previous-generation BMW M4 GT4 customer racing car was priced from €174,000 ($A276,000) painted white without decals or livery.
