BMW M850i First Edition priced and specced

Big new limited-edition all-wheel drive coupe here from July

Just eight examples of the BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition were confirmed for Australia in February and now the German luxury car-maker has announced a price of $295,900 plus on-road costs before the limited-edition coupe arrives here from July.

That makes it $23,000 pricier than the standard BMW M850i Coupe, which will be released Down Under next week, although a total global allocation of just 400 units ensures a level of exclusivity.

In addition, there will be a host of extras, including bespoke BMW Individual Frozen Blue metallic paintwork, BMW Individual full ‘Merino’ leather upholstery finished in Bicolour Ivory White and Night Blue, the M Carbon Exterior Package and a ‘First Edition 1/400’ plaque on the centre console.

Several high-end options will also be standard for the First Edition, which will be produced in Dingolfing between April and June 2019, including a 16-speaker Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound System and Jet Black 20-inch M alloy wheels.

The BMW M850i xDrive Coupe First Edition shares its mechanical specification with the regular M850i xDrive coupe, meaning a 390kW/750Nm 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 driving all four wheels via BMW’s xDrive AWD system and eight-speed Steptronic Sport Automatic transmission.

The claimed zero to 100km/h acceleration time of 3.7 seconds is made even more spectacular via the sonorous tones of an M Sport exhaust system.

Other standard inclusions M Sport Brakes, M Sport Differential, M seat belts (no-cost option) and Adaptive M Suspension Professional comprising Integral Active Steering and Active anti-roll stabilisation.

There’s also an M Carbon Roof and rear spoiler, Comfort Access, wireless smartphone charging, soft-close doors, BMW ‘CraftedClarity’ Glass Applications, BMW Individual Extended ‘Merino’ leather trim and Driving Assistant Professional
Parking Assistant Plus including Rear View Camera, 3D View and Reverse Assistant.

The list continues with BMW Laserlights, BMW Night Vision Camera with Pedestrian Recognition, heated and ventilated front seats and the Heat Comfort Package including front heated door/console armrests and steering wheel.

Two other tech packs are also standard: Connected Package Professional including Remote Services, Real-time Traffic Information, Apple CarPlay and Concierge Services, and BMW Live Cockpit Professional including 12.3-inch instrument cluster, 10.25-inch Control Display, BMW Head-Up Display and Gesture Control.

There is no word of a First Edition version of the BMW M850i xDrive Convertible ($281,900 plus ORCs) for Australia, where the new 8 Series replaces the 6 Series coupe and convertible.

The initial two-door 8 Series models will be followed by the four-door M850i Gran Coupe sedan, plus piping-hot M8 (and M8 Competition) and potentially turbo-six 840i versions of all three body styles.

Stand by for our first Australian drive of both the new BMW 8 Series Coupe and new BMW Z4 next week.
