BMW Australia has announced it will now offer Apple CarPlay connectivity for free.
From today, the Apple smartphone mirroring technology will be free of charge to new BMW owners, as well as those currently paying for a subscription.
Previously, BMW Australia offered CarPlay at no cost for the first 12 months of ownership, but was alone in charging for it on a paid subscription basis thereafter.
Now, even owners who previously paid $479 for a three-year subscription but not renewed it will also have CarPlay permanently reactivated at no charge.
In terms of smartphone mirroring, the luxury car-maker had been lagging behind mainstream manufacturers such as Hyundai, Mazda and Kia – all of which offer on even entry-level variants – for several years.
There’s still no word on when BMW will offer phone mirroring tech for Samsung owners, but we understand it’s just a matter of time before Android Auto becomes available from BMW in Australia.
