Just to prove how hip and in touch it is as a company, BMW is embracing the concept behind YouTube, by creating its own video website.
BMW-web.tv is the German firm's new outlet for cutting out the middleman (like the Carsales Network) and revealing upcoming models. The much rumoured (and at times denied) forthcoming X5 M and X6 M are the latest additions to the site.
IN the latest content, BMW M GmbH executive Bernd Limmer takes a lightly-disguised X5 M to the Nurburgring and punts an equally nonchalantly camouflaged X6 M around the Ascari Race Resort in Spain. These are the first official images of the cars after years of spy shots and rumours.
Limmer confirms that both cars are powered by upgraded versions of the 4.4-litre twin turbo V8 recently launched in Australia in the X6 and new 7 series. He also revealed both cars feature the same active differential used in the X6 but with tweaks to make the drive more rearward focused.
Also featured on the site is a preview of the new X1. The compact SUV is designed to fit underneath the X3. The video shows the car at the Arctic Circle undergoing cold weather testing.
But the site includes more than just new model previews. BMW is calling the site an 'International Online Entertainment Magazine' and it includes sections on cars, motorcycles, design, history, sport, events, technology and the company's Efficient Dynamic program. Check out the GS Safari special if you like bikes and plenty of sand!
