BMW offers M2 Competition performance upgrades

Baby M car to get new carbon parts, bigger brakes, ultra-lightweight rims and sports exhaust

BMW M Sport has announced it has developed a whole raft of performance upgrades for its recently revealed M2 Competition.

On sale in Australia before the end of the year, the German car maker's M Sport sub-brand says if customers are not satisfied with the standard car's performance that's provided by its 302kW/550Nm twin-turbo 3.0-litre six-cylinder then help is at hand.

All BMW M2 Comp owners have to do is pay a (costly) visit to the options list.

Boosting performance by slashing weight is an optional carbon-fibre bonnet, roof and boot lid that, combined, cuts 20kg from the kerbweight.

Yet more weight saving comes courtesy of a performance exhaust upgrade that saves another 8kg. There's are no claims for improvement in either power or torque, but BMW says drivers will relish in its more vocal, sportier note.

Larger 19-inch forged alloy wheels, meanwhile, and a more powerful brake upgrade sheds another 3.2kg of unsprung mass.

The brakes are recommended for track day fans as the vented cross drilled discs come with six-piston front calipers and four-piston calipers at the rear.

Created to withstand repeated big stops, both the pad and disc material are better suited to coping with high temperatures associated with track days.

For those who enjoy tailoring their car's suspension set-up for each circuit they drive, BMW M Sport has also engineered an adjustable coil-over suspension upgrade that allows the driver to alter the M2 Comp's ride height, compression and rebound.

Stickier Michelin Pilot Cup 2 tyres are also offered as an option.

New aero add-ons are also part of the performance upgrades with owners offered an additional front splitter, side skirts and a huge rear wing

Finally, M Sport decals and the choice of black or gold finishes are available for those who want to make an impression.

Inside, stainless steel pedals and a carbon-fibre and alcantara handbrake and gear lever hit the options list.

There are also two M Sport steering wheels available. One with alcantara-and leather, another with carbon-fibre and alcantara that incorporates nifty shift lights, lap timer and g-force meter.

For those who will buy an M2 Competition to finesse their on-track driving, the baby M car also comes with something called an M Performance Drive Analyser that helps owner's view, record and share track day stats easier.
