BMW has given us its first glimpse of the all-new Z4.
The single pic on BMW's official Facebook page previews a dramatic new design language, unique headlights, new slimmer kidney grilles and an aggressive stance.
It appears earlier rumours of the Z4 becoming a 'junior' i8 were wide of the mark.
BMW will lift the wraps from the all-new Z4 on Thursday (U.S. time) in California, at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance.
Along with confirmation the Z4 name is continuing, the big news is the current car's retractable metal hardtop will be ditched for a far lighter fabric roof.
Sharing its platform with the eagerly anticipated all-new Toyota Supra, the little BMW is rumoured to be clothed in lightweight body panels which will likely employ some of the carbon-fibre-reinforced plastics technology developed for both the i3 supermini and i8 supercar.
The Z4 will be manufactured in Austria as part of a joint-venture with Toyota and the volume-selling variant will be rear-wheel drive and powered by a turbocharged 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol.
Range-topping versions may run the turbocharged six-cylinder engine from the BMW M2 – so the Z4 performance flagship could be good for 272kW/465Nm.
As well as that M-version, the Z4 will also be offered with all-wheel drive and even a hybrid powertrain.
And there’s some speculation BMW hasn’t ruled out an even lighter coupe version.
The California launch means full details and photos will surface in the early hours Friday morning.
