BMW is clearly intent on milking every possible bit of publicity in the lead-up to the unveiling of its all-new F10 M5 at September's Frankfurt motor show.
We've already seen a teaser video and an all-but-production-ready M5 Concept (pictured alongside) was revealed at the recent Shanghai motor show, but the Bavarians aren't quite done yet.
Here's the latest instalment in the PR campaign, a short video showing M5 prototypes undergoing high-speed testing at Italy's Nardo track.
The aim of the exercise is clearly to illustrate how composed and stable the new M5 is at warp speeds, with one of the test drivers sipping a beverage while clocking 300km/h-plus.
The video also provides a good indication of the latest-gen M5's aural qualities, which are gruffer and perhaps slightly more subdued than the V10 wail of the outgoing E60 model.
To reiterate, the new M5 scores a lightly upgraded version of the 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that powers the X6 M and X5 M, with outputs bumped up to 412kW and 690Nm – well up on the 373kW and 520Nm eked out by its atmo V10 predecessor.
Also new for the M5 is a Getrag seven-speed, dual-clutch gearbox with steering wheel-mounted shift paddles.
External clues that distinguish the new M car from the bogger 5 Series include a deeper front bumper with a large central cooling duct for the intercooler, along with subtly wider front wings with chrome-rimmed air vents.
At the rear is a subtle lip spoiler that increases downforce at speed and a reprofiled bumper with fully functioning central diffuser. The M5's beefier looks are rounded off with a set of 20-inch alloy wheels shod with 265/35 ZR20 tyres up front and 295/30 ZR20s at the rear.
Despite its increase in dimensions, the new M5 is expected to hit the scales at close to the old car's 1830kg, thanks to extensive use of aluminium and carbonfibre in the bodyshell.
