BMW releases M6 GT3 race car spec

Replacing the current Z4 GT3 that raced and won at the 24-hour endurance race at Spa, Belgium last weekend, the bigger new coupe racer has been designed especially for the German car maker’s customer race teams.
Claimed to raise the bar for performance, the new M6 racer is also said to offer running costs that are 30 per cent lower compared to the old Z4 GT3.
Powered by the M6 road car’s 436kW 4.4-litre twin-turbo V8 that’s said to have only been ‘slightly modified’ for competition, the car is based around a steel chassis with an FIA-approved welded roll cage installed.
To trim weight down to the 1300kg kerb weight, BMW has added a carbon-fibre crash cell at the front and rear that’s said to offer safety protection that goes beyond the 2016 regulations.
BMW’s motorsport engineers have also focused on making the new M6 GT3 easier to drive, and even boosted the M6 cabin’s interior ergonomics.
Costing €379,000 ($550,000 in our money), M6 GT3 deliveries start this September – shortly after BMW reveals the full uncamouflaged race car at the Frankfurt motor show.
