BMW Australia has today announced pricing for its third-generation Z4 roadster.
Priced from $84,900 (plus on-road costs), the local line-up will see three variants vie for attention in the prestige convertible sector, the BMW Z4 set to challenge the likes of Porsche’s Boxster, the Alpine A110 and Mercedes-Benz’s SLC – and of course the Z4’s twin-under-the-skin Toyota Supra.
Designed by Australian Calvin Luk, the Z4 range begins with the 145kW/320Nm 2.0-litre turbo-petrol sDrive20i (from $84,900 plus ORCs) which claims a 0-100km/h time of 6.6sec and a fuel economy average of 6.5L/100km (ADR Combined). More specification detail is available below.
Like all Z4 models, the sDrive20i drives the rear wheels via a standard eight-speed automatic transmission with launch control.
On the middle rung of the Z4 portfolio is the sDrive30i which shares the 20i’s 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engine, albeit with a 190kW/400Nm tune. Dashing to 100km/h in 5.4sec and with a claimed fuel consumption average of 6.5L/100km, the Z4 sDrive30i is priced from $104,900 (plus ORCs).
Finally, it’s the range-topping M Performance-powered Z4 M40i – and the only six-cylinder engine in the current line-up – priced from $124,900 (plus ORCs). The turbocharged roadster makes 250kW/500Nm for a 0-100km/h of just 4.5sec, fuel economy climbing to 7.4L/100km.
Like its lower-specified siblings the M40i features an electronically-operated soft top roof (which opens or closes in 10 seconds at up to 50km/h), 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution and a 281-litre boot.
Technology offerings see the Z4 offer BMW’s Live Cockpit Professional offers a 12.3-inch customisable instrument cluster, 10.25-inch Control Display infotainment array, and BMW Head-Up Dispay, the latter a first for the Z4 range. The BMW Z4’s standard Connected Package Professional includes Remote Services, Real Time Traffic Information, wireless Apple CarPlay and Concierge Services, and Wireless smartphone charging and Extended Bluetooth connectivity.
Black Vernasca leather upholstery with contrasting blue stitching is fitted as standard on all variants, with Ivory White, Black, Magma Red and Cognac trim available as a no-cost option. Three metallic and one solid paint options are offered from launch , including the additional option of Frozen Grey II, a matte finish from the BMW Individual collection.
All Z4 variants include BMW’s latest-generation variable sport steering and are suspended by a newly-designed double-joint spring-strut front and five-link rear arrangement, the set-up 10mm lower on Australian specified models. The Z4 M40i includes an electronically-operated limited-slip M Sport Differential as standard (optional on sDrive30i).
“The all new BMW Z4 is a triumphant return to our enduring Z model heritage,” said BMW Group Australia CEO, Vikram Pawah.
“It is a real statement piece for the brand, combining stand-out styling and impressive engine performance with handling dynamics to really please the driver.”
