BMW snares top gong for customer satisfaction

Canstar Blue names prestige brand as highest-rated company in motoring awards survey

Market research firm Canstar Blue has announced winners of its annual customer satisfaction survey, with BMW taking the gold for overall satisfaction.

To arrive at a winner, the survey polled 2354 vehicle owners who had purchased a new car during the past three years. Winners in the four categories were Suzuki (small cars), Toyota (a dual winner for sedans and SUVs/4WDs) and BMW for the overall new car award.

"Numerous factors help determine overall satisfaction when you buy a new car, but ultimately the feel good factor that comes with driving a great vehicle is the most significant," said Head of Canstar Blue, Megan Doyle.

"Motorists want great service when they buy a new car and want to feel confident that they're driving away in a reliable vehicle that represents value for money. But once you've left the dealership, it's about that new car excitement and enjoying a great driving experience."

In order of importance, driving experience (27%) was found to be the key driver of customer satisfaction, followed by value for money (19%), after-sale service (17%), reliability (15%), point of sale (13%) and servicing (10%).

"When it comes to sedans and SUVs, motorists who own a Toyota generally speak highly of their vehicles in terms of affordability and reliability," said Doyle. "Toyota has earned the repeat business of Australian motorists, with some survey respondents owning their fourth, fifth or even sixth different model.

"Suzuki is praised by owners for producing easy to drive, comfortable and economical cars, while those who drive a BMW are more focussed on the aesthetically pleasing satisfaction that comes with owning a luxury car, but also praise its reliability.

"An honourable mention also goes to Kia for being the only manufacturer to earn a five-star rating on value for money in the overall ratings."

Canstar Blue conducted the survey between September and November of 2015. Of the 9000 adults surveyed, only 2354 had purchased a new car in the previous three years.
