BMW has teased its all-new X5 in a new video that attempts to demonstrate its fourth-generation SUV will be far more accomplished off-road than the model it replaces.
Showing the X5 being testing everywhere from the Arctic Circle to Africa, the latest BMW has been confirmed will come with an Offroad Package that enhances its ability in the rough, tough and treacherous conditions.
Capable of pre-arming the all-wheel drive system at the touch of a button for either snow, sand, rocks or gravel, the latest big BMW SUV's 'terrain response' system similar to the technology already offered by Land Rover.
Thanks to an all-new suspension, BMW says the X5 will come with the "highest-level ride comfort" on the road.
The off-road pack is also thought to add a raised ride, height, underbody armour and grippier mud and snow tyres.
Set to be launched at the Paris motor show this September, the X5 migrates from its current platform to the car maker's CLAR underpinnings that's expected to carve around 100kg off its current kerbweight while improving the structure's stiffness.
Already developed for both pure-electric and plug-in powertrains, expect the latter to be offered from its launch.
Under the bonnet, an updated version of the efficient four-cylinder petrol and diesels as well as a range of powerful six-cylinder engines will power the X5.
At the top of the BMW SUV tree will be the X5 M that's likely to use the incredible 441kW 4.4 litre twin-turbo 4.4-litre V8 from the latest M5.
Inside, the BMW X5 will be the first to feature BMW's next-generation operating system that will also work with the car maker's latest iDrive system.
The X5 will also come with plenty of semi-autonomous driving aids.
When it arrives, the X5 will be the fourth BMW X model to arrive in 2018, following on from the X2, X3 and X4.
