BMW to debut new show cars in Pebble Beach
Munich marks 40 years of official sales in North America with two concepts for annual auto galaBMW is keeping tight-lipped about what's in store, but the prestige marque has volunteered that it will unveil two concept cars during the Monterey Car Week during August.
According to a press release issued overnight, the show cars will be presented at Pebble Beach on August 13 to mark the occasion of BMW's 40th anniversary in North America.
The one and only image supplied with the manufacturer's press release depicts a futuristic multi-function steering wheel featuring buttons marked: 'Radio', 'Wiper', 'PSL', 'Alarm', 'Flash' and 'Cool'. Get the feeling that BMW is dropping hints with those? And the steering wheel boss is too small to house an airbag for the driver. Shift paddles are clearly visible behind the spokes of the wheel, which follows the style of an aircraft-like joystick rather than a conventional steering wheel.
It all remains a mystery.
We will learn more just under a month from now, when BMW dignitaries Ludwig Hillig, Karim Habib and Dirk Haecker speak during a press conference at the BMW Villa on Cypress Drive in Pebble Beach. Hillig is BMW North America's CEO, Habib is Director of Design and Hacker is the VP for R&D.
