BMW to reveal production-ready X1 in Paris

PARIS PREVIEW: the 'X' in BMW's X1 is very much an unknown quantity

BMW has issued photos and press material for the new X1 'Sports Activity Vehicle' concept ahead of the car's global unveiling at the Paris motor show.

Unfortunately, BMW has told us little about the vehicle that doesn't pertain directly to the X1's styling. There has been no mention of drivetrain components or prospective performance figures, for example.

We can tell you that the concept is finished in a metallic paint named Meridian Gold and the alloy wheels are a 10-spoke design measuring a 19-inch diameter. The concept is likely to be pretty close to the final production version, given BMW has already been testing prototypes (more here).

Local BMW MD, Guenther Seemann, alluded to this in the press release for the X1, provided to media outlets today.

"Many of the details on the concept car are a clear indication that an actual series production model is not too far away," he said.

We expected it would be a little smaller than it actually is, but BMW does say that the concept is 4457mm long -- over 100mm longer than Nissan's Dualis and 200mm longer than the 1 Series hatch.
