BMW will take the wraps off a brand new concept car, the 328 Mille Miglia Concept Coupé, at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este on April 23, which is held near Lake Como in Italy.
The new concept car, which is being kept under wraps until the Concorso event begins, has been created to celebrate BMW's win at the Mille Miglia some 70 years ago.
The Munich-based company has released no other details on the 328 Mille Miglia Concept Coupé, other than that it will unveil the new concept car.
Fittingly, BMW has also gone to great lengths to restore the 1940s 328 Kamm Coupé upon which the modern day concept car is loosely based, and which will be right at home among some of the rarest historic cars at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
"We are very proud to bring this milestone in motor racing history and vehicle aerodynamics back into the public spotlight," said Karl Baumer, Director of BMW Group Classic, ahead of the world premiere of the racing car on Lake Como.
"Our tribute to the M1 at the Concorso two years ago showed how much inspiration the past can provide for the future. And the BMW 328 Kamm Coupé is an outstanding example of how far back the future at BMW stretches into the past," added Baumer.
Not long after its victory in the 1940 Mille Miglia, the BMW 328 Kamm Coupé was "spirited out of Munich into the countryside to prevent them from being destroyed in the war" explains BMW.
For Karl Baumer restoring the 328 Kamm Coupé hasn't been easy: "We've come up against some major technical challenges, had many discussions and racked up countless hours of research, but when you see the car for the first time you can sense the passion and professionalism invested by all those involved -- both all those years ago and today."
In addition to the classic 328 Kamm Coupé and the modern-day 328 Mille Miglia Concept Coupé, BMW will also have a special exhibition of other Mille Miglia cars at the Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este.
