BMW updates 3 Series Coupé, Convertible
Prices adjusted for upgraded two-door variants in the 3 Series rangeThe sixth generation BMW 3 Series sedan models are now comfortably ensconced in national BMW showrooms, so the Bavarian company has just spiced up Coupé and Convertible 3 Series with equipment upgrades and revised prices to tide us over until its next generation 3 Series two-door variants arrive on the scene.
All variants in the current Coupé and Convertible 3 Series range have been tweaked to offer better value, along with higher levels of base equipment.
Starting at the top of the range, the 335 M Sport Coupé and convertible are cheaper, but add extra equipment: The Coupé drops $5,150, from $113,750 to $108,600, while the Convertible drops $5,300, from $126,900 to $121,600.
Extra standard gear includes a Harmon Kardon sound system and anti-glare external rearview mirrors, which BMW says raise total value by $7,100, for both Coupé and soft-top.
Prices are unchanged for entry level turbodiesel 320d variants ($69,500 and $82,500 respectively) but gain extra equipment to the tune of $4,200. This includes mixed 17-inch star spoke alloys, BMW’s Comfort Access system, adaptive headlights with High Beam Assist, and standard Business SatNav. As with all other 3 Series Coupé and Convertible models, adaptive bi-Xenon headlights with LED daytime running lights are now standard.
325i Coupé and Convertible variants, like 320d, are unchanged in price but add extra equipment including 18-inch alloys, adaptive headlights, Professional SatNav and anti-glare external rearview mirrors.
The only models with an upward price shift are the six-cylinder turbodiesel 330d Coupé and Convertible, which have increased by $2,000 to $97,600 and $110,700 respectively. Again, BMW has added further standard equipment to at least compensate. New standard fare includes 18-inch alloys with mixed tyres, adaptive headlights, Harman Kardon audio, Professional SatNav and anti-glare external rearview mirrors.
The current generation 3 Series Coupé and Convertible should be with us for some time, as BMW’s plans for the series are not as yet clear. Rumour has it the company is planning a “4” series that would include (Audi style) two and four-door coupés - the former a basis for a new, sixth-generation convertible.
An educated guess would see the “4” series BMWs making a European appearance some time in 2013, with Australia to follow.
