BMW updates 6 Series range

Fresh face, more equipment and personalisation options for all variants
BMW has revealed a list of updates for its premium 6 Series range, including the performance-oriented M6.
M6 Convertible, Coupe and Gran Coupe models benefit from a wider range of standard equipment, including standard-fit LED headlights and park distance control. Inside, an iPhone-look central information display is featured in a black panel centre console. Merino full-leather interior with contrast stitching is available for the first time. Jatoba metallic paintwork offers a new colour option, with BMW Individual adding 11 paint finishes, five leather options and three interior trim packages. The new BMW M Laptimer app and GoPro app offer enhanced track-day analysis.
Power, torque and economy remain unchanged, meaning 412kW/680Nm from the 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 and consumption of 9.9L/100km for the closed vehicles and 10.3L/100km for the convertible variant.
In addition to the M cars, the carry-over 640d, 640i and 650i models promise 'significantly enhanced sports performance' for Convertible and Coupe variants and 'a heightened sense of elegance' for the Gran Coupe, according to BMW.
Styling changes include an updated kidney grille design and changes to front and rear aprons to accentuate the body's width. Larger exhaust pipe embellishers are fitted to all six-cylinder models. Full-LED headlights are fitted standard for the first time, with adaptive LED lights and anti-dazzle high-beam assist optionally available.
The new 6 Series remains essentially the same under the redesigned skin, with the exception of a sports exhaust system that is fitted to all petrol variants as standard. Power, torque and efficiency figures remain unchanged across the board.
Five new metallic paint finishes (Jatoba, Cashmere Silver, Glacier Silver, Mediterranean Blue and Melbourne Red) have been released, while inside a swathe of new interior surfaces adds ambience; bi-colour leather is also available at added cost.
Other option boxes include a new light-alloy 20-inch wheel design, and the introduction of Design Pure Experience and Design Pure Excellence packages – along with an extended range of BMW Individual choices – allows owners more personalisation than ever.
BMW Australia told motoring.com.au that the facelifted 6 Series will be available from mid-2015, with pricing to be announced closer to the local launch date.
