When in doubt, black it out.
BMW has joined the growing list of manufacturers to channel their dark side, offering two new versions of their high-performance SUV flagships – the X5 M Black Fire edition and X6 M Black Fire edition.
Due to go on sale internationally from August, the cars are mechanically identical to the regular X5 M and X6 M, but are fitted with unique styling treatments to lend some added exclusivity.
First and foremost, both models live up to their names by being adorned solely in Saphire Black Metallic paint, a black grille with black louvres and carbon fibre mirror caps. Each rides on 21-inch black alloy wheels that are staggered in width, 10 inches wide at the front, 11.5 inches wide at the rear.
A similar theme permeates the interior thanks to black and red leather upholstery, an anthracite-coloured headliner, electrically-adjusted front M-Sport seats with integrated headrest and lashings of gloss black highlights.
The regular 4.4-litre twin-turbo petrol V8 carries over in both models, developing 423kW/750Nm and mated standard to an eight-speed automatic that sends drive to all four wheels.
The powertrain endows both the X5M and X6M with a 0-100km/h time of 4.2 seconds and an electronically-governed top speed of 250km/h.
BMW Australia is yet to confirm the arrival of the Black Fire editions.
