BMW X5, X6 and X7 get menacing special-editions

Limited-run large BMW SUVs get darkened visual tweaks and M Sport upgrades

BMW has announced it is introducing new special-editions of its BMW X5, X6 and flagship X7 that come with special paint, new design features and extra kit.

The limited-run 2021 BMW X5 and X6 Black Vermilion specials see both the large SUV and SUV-coupe gain Frozen Black exterior paint that's combined with red accents, an uprated grille with red bars and huge matte grey 22-inch alloy wheels.

Other extras thrown in include an M Sport exhaust, red M Sport brake callipers and a pair of bright BMW Laserlight headlights.

Inside, the exterior is reflected with a set of black leather seats that get red stitching and an Alcantara headliner. Further red accents are found on the rear seats and floor mats.

Dark rear tinted windows complete the upgrades.

The BMW X7 Frozen Black edition gets the same Frozen Black paint as X5 and X6 but misses out on the splashes of rouge. Riding on a set of new matte grey 22-inch rims, the biggest BMW SUV gets the same Alcantara headlining but more subtle gloss black brake callipers.

The M Sport exhaust and solar glass are both also standard.

All three special-editions go on sale from August 2021 with the cheapest BMW X5 Black Vermilion priced in Germany from €93,200 ($A148,000).

There's no word yet whether the three special-editions are destined to be sold Down Under.
