BMW XM Label Red named 2024 MotoGP safety car

BMW M has announced that its 26th safety car for the MotoGP race series will be the 2024 BMW XM Label Red, which will first see action in March next year at the opening round in Qatar.

Featuring additional flashing front lights, a safety car roof bar plus a new front splitter, the BMW XM Label Red safety car is painted in an under-the-radar matte black finish but gets red accents along the door tops and rear C-pillar.

Inside, there’s race-ready Recaro seats with a full six-point harness and a fire suppression system.

Helping offset its huge 2710kg kerb weight, the BMW XM Label Red safety car comes with the standard car’s twin-turbocharged 4.4-litre V8 plug-in hybrid powertrain that produces an almighty 550kW and 1000Nm.

With little opportunity to exploit its 80km of EV range on track, the safety car driver will be more focused on the 0-100km/h dash of 4.3 seconds and the XM Label Red’s 270km/h top speed (with the optional M Driver’s Pack fitted.)

Presented in Valencia at the final round of the 2023 MotoGP season, BMW M presented an XM Label Red for the season’s fastest qualifier, Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia.

Not a bad prize for being quick considering that in Australia the monstrously fast SUV is priced from $344,200 plus on-road costs.
