BMW's 4 Series Convertible officially revealed

Drop-top version will be based around larger dimensions of new 4 Series Coupe
BMW is putting the final touches to its 4 Series Convertible for global markets just a day out from launching the 4 Series Coupe donor in Australia.
The prestige manufacturer has released some basic spec information for the folding-roof version of the 4 Series, disclosing the new model will be larger in width and track, and longer in the wheelbase, than the E93 variants of 3 Series it succeeds. In addition, occupants will have more headroom and rear-seat legroom than before.
At launch the car will be powered by a choice of two petrol engines or a diesel, all of which will be Euro 6-compliant for emissions. These models are an inline six (435i), an inline four (428i) and the diesel four-cylinder variant (420d). According to BMW the engine outputs will range from 135kW to 225kW. Six-speed manual and eight-speed automatic transmissions will carry the drive to the rear wheels. Retaining the traditional 50/50 weight distribution of earlier BMWs, the 4 Series will steer through an electrically-assisted rack-and-pinion set-up.
Features we can expect to see in the new 4 Series Convertible here in Australia will include a new generation of satellite navigation (Professional), full-colour head-up display, Driving Assistant Plus pedestrian protection system, LED-based headlights with High Beam Assistant, and Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go function.
According to BMW's press information, the new car will come with a three-piece retractable hardtop roof with a built-in noise-absorbing headliner. Top down, the roof will be raised within the luggage compartment by a load and unload assist function to liberate more room for luggage and goods. Keeping occupants comfortable on the move, the automatic climate control adjusts comfort settings to take into account the ambient temperature outside and the speed of the car. BMW designers have also configured the electrically-adjustable seats with integrated seatbelts. Neck warmers will be available with the standard seats, the manufacturer advises, as well as with optional sports seats featuring recessed headrests.
As with other 3 Series derivatives, the 4 Series range will offer three equipment lines (not counting the M Sport line). Sport, Modern and Luxury lines will allow buyers a personalised look and feel to the car, suiting their own tastes and preferences.
